Phil Eckersley, the Bank of England’s Agent for the South East and East Anglia, shared the latest Monetary Policy Committee’s forecast for inflation and GDP growth over the next few years.

His presentation covered the impact of rising energy costs on household budgets and how they are significantly contributing to the boost in inflation in the UK and across the G7 economies, comparing the inflation rates in the US and the EU.

Reflecting on inflation and house prices over the last fifty years and comparing data from recessions in the 70’s and early 2000’s, and the transition periods which followed, Mr Eckersley shared his thoughts on the current economic situation.

Speaking to over 40 business people from across Milton Keynes, Mr Eckersley engaged the audience with an interactive poll and answered questions on the labour market, the impact of the war in Ukraine on the economy, and the cost of living.

The latest MKBLP member’s breakfast was held at The Holiday Inn, Central Milton Keynes.
