Milton Keynes Business Leaders Partnership chairman Philip Smith receives MBE

MK Business Leaders Partnership chairman Philip Smith says he is pleased and proud to receive an MBE in The New Year Honours List, but he insists the award is also recognition for the organisations he has been fortunate enough to be connected with across the fields of business, education, sport and charity.

Philip has been made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for services to business and the community of Milton Keynes.

“I am humbled that my efforts have been rewarded in this way. I try to put what I can into the roles I perform in MK, but this is something special.”

Philip is a qualified accountant and a Rotarian and he has been a senior executive in a number of blue chip companies including ASDA Group and National Power and he is a director of several other companies. He is also chairman of MK Business Council, MK Transport Partnership, and MK Sports Board and he chairs the board of governors of Milton Keynes Academy.

Philip is a director of Destination MK, The Stables, MK City Orchestra, Bucks and MK Sports Partnership and Biztech and he is a governor, member and a trustee of, respectively, the University of Bedfordshire, Buckingham University Development Board and the De Montfort University Students Union Trust. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by De Montfort University in 2010.

His past sporting interests have included the chairmanship of Leicester City Football Club and he is also a patron of Willen Hospice, MK Community Foundation and MK City Orchestra.
