Unity Place Santander Development Featured in Financial Times

Interesting article in the Financial Times this week highlighting the development of the new Santander building on Unity Place, which is set to be the bank’s UK headquarters when it opens in 2023.

While Santander has, of course, been a recognised business within Milton Keynes for many years, it’s the ‘gravity shift’ of its headquarters away from London which has captured national attention.

The fall-out from the pandemic has made many of the UK’s largest employers reconsider the cost and necessity of large, expensive, commercial space. Following the UK Powerhouse Report earlier this year, which found that Milton Keynes is expected to lead the fastest economic recovery in the country, we stated the fact that this was no surprise. Milton Keynes is the ideal inward investment destination to take the overspill from major cities.

However, I echo the sentiment made then, again now - we just need to ensure that we market Milton Keynes effectively to continue to attract these inbound companies. We also need to ensure that we continue to work towards attracting and retaining talent, while supporting entrepreneurs and SME’s for a fully comprehensive picture of success which will safeguard the longevity of Milton Keynes as a powerhouse town.
